Delhi: Sanskrit conversation camps to be held from April 23

In a major push to revive Sanskrit as a living, spoken language, Sanskrit Bharati, which is an RSS affiliate, in collaboration with the Sanskrit Academy Delhi, on Wednesday announced the launch of a citywide campaign, Sanskrit Sambhashan Shivir Abhiyan, from April 23 to May 3.

As part of the unique initiative, 1,008 Sanskrit conversation camps will be conducted simultaneously across Delhi, with the aim of reconnecting lakhs of people with the ancient language that lies at the heart of Indian civilisation.

Describing the campaign as a “cultural renaissance”, organisers said the camps would be held free of cost at universities, colleges, schools, RWAs, ashrams, dharamshalas, Arya Samaj temples, Sanatan Dharma temples and gurukuls.

Each participant will receive 20 hours of conversational Sanskrit training over 10 days. The sessions are open to all, regardless of age or background, and will also include discussions on Indian values, ethics and social principles — imparted through Sanskrit.

The campaign will conclude with a grand closing ceremony on May 4 at the University of Delhi, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be the chief guest, alongside other dignitaries.

At a press conference held to announce the initiative, Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari, MLA Kapil Mishra, Sanskrit Bharati’s Akhil Bharatiya Sangathan mantri Jayprakash Gautam and Delhi prant adhyaksh Vageesh Bhatt expressed their support.

“This is the first time we are witnessing a mass-scale ‘Learn Sanskrit’ campaign. It’s not just a language — it is a bridge to our culture,” said Manoj Tiwari.
