After power outage, waterlogging incident puts Rajindra Hospital under scanner

Rajindra Hospital once again came under scrutiny today after its biochemistry lab was found to be waterlogged.

Staff, patients and their relatives visiting the lab had to vade through the waterlogged floor. Some of the senior citizens also slipped and fell while walking through the wet floor, said Vijay Kumar, an attendant.

One of the staff members also complained about the waterlogged corridor. The employees informed the hospital authorities about the incident. Soon the sanitation department workers and class IV staff reached the area. A snag in a tap installed in the washroom led to waterlogging, said the sanitation staff.

This incident took place close on the heels of the power outage incident at the maternity ward of the hospital, which had drawn sharp political reactions, with Opposition party leaders targeting the ruling AAP regime and its “much-publicised” health model.

BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ravneet Singh Bittu and former Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu were quick to react to the controversy.

However, Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Girish Sahni had termed the allegations of power outage as baseless. He said the supply was snapped for less than a minute due to routine preventive maintenance work to check the functioning of wires, fans, air-conditioners ahead of the summer season.
