Sunny Deol’s Jaat Struggles At The Box Office, But Jaat 2 Is Already Greenlit

Sunny Deol's much-anticipated action drama ‘Jaat’ has failed to live up to expectations at the box office, despite a massive promotional strategy and considerable anticipation. Following the blockbuster success of ‘Gadar 2’, there was high hope for Jaat, but it has struggled to gain solid traction. After several days, the film finally crossed the ₹50 crore mark, but it still fell short of the performance seen in Deol’s previous release.

In a recent turn of events, the producers of Jaat have already greenlit a sequel to recover their investment. Sunny Deol took to social media on Thursday morning to share the news, announcing ‘Jaat 2’ with a poster. In his post, he wrote:
“#Jaat on to a New Mission! #Jaat2”

The poster also confirms that Gopichand Malineni will direct the sequel, with the same production team—Naveen Yerneni, Ravi Shankar Y, and TG Vishwa Prasad—from Mythri Movie Makers returning to produce. While Sunny Deol will reprise his role, other cast details have yet to be revealed.

About Jaat (2025)

Jaat is a high-octane action drama set against the backdrop of post-civil war Sri Lanka in 2009. Directed by Gopichand Malineni, the film stars Sunny Deol in a commanding lead role. The plot revolves around Ranatunga (played by Randeep Hooda), a laborer who discovers gold left behind by the Jaffna Tiger Force. His find sparks a violent chain of events, attracting both the Sri Lankan army and an Indian vigilante portrayed by Deol. The film is marked by intense action sequences and explores themes of greed, power, and retribution.

Jaat Box Office Performance

Despite a ₹9.62 crore opening—making it the fourth-biggest Bollywood opening of the year—Jaat struggled to maintain momentum at the box office. Over its opening weekend, the film grossed ₹32.2 crore domestically. By the end of its first week, its total collection reached ₹57.31 crore, surpassing the lifetime earnings of Deol’s 2011 film ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’. However, it still lags far behind the massive success of his previous blockbuster, ‘Gadar 2’.

With ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ and other upcoming films set to compete, Jaat will now face stiff competition at the box office. It remains to be seen how the film will perform in the coming weeks.
