No chicken curry, Fish items or Omelette, This is India’s first Sattivik train which serves only vegetarian food, operates between… name is…
New Delhi: Indian Railways has always been the backbone of India’s economy and connectivity. The sector has played an important role in connecting people and facilitating the movement of goods across vast distances. However, the food and beverages served to the passengers have been a matter of discussion for the travelers. Many passengers don’t trust the cleanliness and purity of the food served on trains, especially when vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals are prepared together.
In a strategic move, the Indian railways has decided to serve only vegetarian food to passengers onboard the Vande Bharat Express running from Delhi to Katra. This makes it the first train in India to offer exclusively Sattvik, vegetarian meals to its passengers.
The New Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express not only offers vegetarian meals, but also bars passengers to bring non-vegetarian food or snacks on board. Under an agreement between Indian Railways’ catering service (IRCTC) and the ‘Sattvik Council of India’, this train has been officially declared completely vegetarian. Non-vegetarian food is not allowed to be prepared in the train’s kitchen, and the waiters working here serve only vegetarian meals.
Here are some of the key details:
- New Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express is specially designed for devotees traveling to visit Mata Vaishno Devi, who prefer a sattvik (pure vegetarian) diet during their journey.
- The food served on this train does not include eggs, meat, or any non-vegetarian ingredients.
- This train has received a ‘Sattvik’ certification, which makes it even more special.
- IRCTC is now making several trains running on religious routes ‘Sattvik Certified’ to ensure that devotees receive pure and sattvik meals.
- In 2021, the Sattvik Council of India, in collaboration with IRCTC, launched this initiative to provide completely pure and sattvik food to religious travelers even while on the train.
