BCCI Sack Abhishek Nayar, T Dilip From Coaching Team: Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have reportedly sacked Abhishek Nayar (batting coach) and T Dilip (fielding coach) from the coaching staff of the Indian Cricket Team on Thursday, April 17.

The decision comes in at a point of time where all the stars of the Indian team are currently busy playing IPL, and the apex institution for cricket in India have ample of time to conduct an overhaul, before India depart for England to play a 5-match Test series, thus embarking the start of the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.

India, who recently won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in UAE, have won two ICC titles in the space of 8 months (T20 World Cup in June 2024), but their form in red-ball cricket has been a big concern.

Apart from their 2-0 win over Bangladesh at home, India have heavily struggled for consistency in Tests, with New Zealand and Australia handing the side a series of embarassing defeats, thereby ending India's quest for a hat-trick of WTC Final appearances.

Not just the coaching staff, it will be interesting to see the status of some senior players in the red-ball set-up of Indian team, as the poor form of Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma was of huge concern for the side.

Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket during the Australia tour, and this leaves a huge void in the Indian team, as they aim at replacing the legendary all-rounder.

The England tour will be followed by a white-ball tour of Bangladesh, before India host West Indies for a two-match Test series.

India will close their 2025 action with white-ball series against Australia (away) and South Africa (home).
