Myanmar frees around 4,900 prisoners to mark traditional new year

Myanmar's military leader, Min Aung Hlaing, pardoned nearly 4,900 prisoners during the traditional New Year. Thirteen foreigners will be deported. This amnesty excludes those convicted of serious crimes. Celebrations were subdued due to the recent earthquake. Min Aung Hlaing promised reconstruction and called for peaceful conflict resolution. Clashes between the army and pro-democracy forces continued during the holiday.
