Road repairs worth Rs 20 cr underway in city: Mayor

The development and restoration works are underway to bring back the lost glory of Royal City, said with Municipal Corporation Mayor Kundan Gogia, Senior Deputy Mayor Harinder Kohli, and Deputy Mayor Jagdeep Singh Jagga during the face-to-face program held at the Patiala Media Club.

They informed that road repair work worth Rs 20 crore by L&T is currently underway in the city, while another Rs 30 crore has been received from the Punjab government, the estimates for which are being prepared, and this money will be spent on development works.

Club President Parmeet Singh hosted the interaction. The officials stated that for the first time, employees have received their salaries on the 7th of the month.

While answering questions, Gogia, Senior Deputy Mayor Kohli, and Deputy Mayor Jagga said the Municipal Corporation has started generating income from January for the first time in seven years.

Besides the record income from property tax, they said, the contract for the AC Market’s cycle stand has been given for Rs 29.7 lakh after six years, from which the Municipal Corporation is earning Rs 8,000 daily.

Answering questions, the three leaders stated that 50 percent of the 173 CCTV cameras in the city, which were lying defunct, have been made operational, and 40 new ones are being installed. They said that the e-challan system will be introduced soon.

Regarding the shifting of dairies, the Mayor said there are two months left before the monsoons begin, and they are making strong efforts to shift the dairies before the monsoons. He also informed that work is underway on a plan to beautify the Rajindra Lake in the city and open it to tourists, and a coordination meeting of various departments is being called.
