5 kg heroin seized, 4 peddlers arrested

The police have confiscated over 5 kg heroin along with arms and ammunition in Fazilka and Amritsar and arrested four drug smugglers in that connection.

The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) seized 3.1 kg heroin, two country-made pistols and some ammunition, while the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Fazilka, in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF) arrested three persons, including a woman, and seized 2 kg contraband from their possession.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said the ANTF arrested cross-border drug trafficker Jobanjit Singh, alias Joban, of Kotli Sur Singh village under the Bhikhiwind police station in Tarn Taran. The police team confiscated 3.105 kg heroin smuggled from Pakistan via drones and two .32 bore country-made pistols along with 37 live cartridges and two magazines from his possession. Joban was in touch with Pakistan-based drug peddlers.

ANTF SP Gurpreet Singh said the police team apprehended Jobanjit from his house at Kotli Sur Singh village. A case under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act has been registered at the Mohali ANTF police station.

Meanwhile, the SSOC and BSF nabbed three persons from the Fazilka border and seized 2 kg heroin from them. The BSF also seized a drone in the Amritsar sector.

The BSF authorities said, “In a joint operation with the SSOC, Fazilka, a naka was laid on the Fazilka-Ferozepur road and three persons travelling on a bike were intercepted and heroin seized from their possession. Those arrested were identified as Balwinder Singh, his wife Malkeet Kaur, both residents of Ghurka, and Balwant Singh of Hasta Kalan village.”
