Cong protests chargesheet against Gandhis at ED office
Following the chargesheet against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate in the Deccan Herald case, leaders of the Punjab Congress on Wednesday held a protest in front of the zonal office of the central agency here.
The protest was held as a part of its nationwide agitation terming the action of the ED a case of political vendetta at the behest of the ruling BJP at the Centre. The Congress leaders, including Jalandhar MP Charanjit Channi, Amritsar MP Gurjeet Aujla, Jalandhar MLAs Pargat Singh, Bawa Henry, Sukhwinder Kotli, Hardev Laddi Sherowalia, Balwinder Dhaliwal, ex-minister Raj Kumar Verka, ex-MLAs Rajinder Beri, Sukhwinder Danny, Surinder Chaudhary, halqa incharges Rajinder Singh and Dr Navjot Dahiya, were present.
Aujla said, “The elections in Bihar and Assam are approaching. By using ED at this juncture, the BJP wants to stall the possibility of an alliance of the Congress with other parties in these states.”
Pargat Singh slammed the BJP for doing politics of hatred, “Our GDP has fallen. We are nearing bankruptcy but those at the helm are not bothered. The Centre’s only agenda is to misuse institutions like ED and CBI just as the police and Vigilance Bureau are being misused by the AAP government in the state. We need to grow stronger to fight against any such oppression”.
The leaders also took on the AAP government for framing LoP Partap Bajwa for his “50 bombs reached Punjab” remark. Adampur MLA Sukhwinder Kotli challenged AAP state chief Aman Arora to show the cudgels and get Bajwa arrested. Leaders also challenged the state and Centre to get Gurpatwant S Pannun extradited, especially in the wake of his alleged actions intended at dividing the communities. Channi said those putting up his ‘missing’ posters in Jalandhar would not be able to earn any political mileage as desired by them.
