Four districts get high-tech forensic vans for on-spot crime scene analysis

Investigating crimes in Haryana just got smarter and faster with the deployment of high-tech Forensic Investigation Vans in Gurugram, Faridabad, Panchkula, and Sonepat.

These mobile forensic labs, provided by the National Forensic Science University (NFSU), Gandhinagar through the Ministry of Home Affairs, are equipped with advanced tools to conduct on-the-spot evidence analysis and generate preliminary reports.

Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta, after inspecting one such van, said, “The objective of the new law is to provide justice at a fast pace, which is possible only when the Forensic Science Laboratory report is received quickly. If this van is present at the crime scene, samples can be taken immediately and a preliminary investigation report can be given.”

The van features kits for detecting drugs, explosives, fingerprints, footprints, DNA, and includes a refrigerator, generator, and video camera to preserve and record crucial evidence.

A senior police officer said, “This van is a mobile version of a forensic lab. Samples of blood or other evidence will be collected at the spot and preserved properly. Earlier, delays led to sample degradation. Now, with refrigeration and sealed storage, such issues are addressed.”

The van also houses narcotics and explosive testing tools, chemical residue analysers, and equipment to test semen, blood, and human saliva. Additionally, it’s fitted with multiple wavelength light sources to help detect and examine trace evidence on the spot.

Cameras mounted on the van begin recording upon arrival at the crime scene, aiding both documentation and transparency.

With this upgrade, Haryana Police expects a significant boost in the speed and accuracy of criminal investigations.
