Shashank Kumar is the co-founder of Razorpay, one of India’s leading fintech platforms revolutionizing digital payments. A graduate of IIT Roorkee, Shashank began his career as a Software Developer at Microsoft US, where he honed his skills in building scalable tech systems.
How did Razorpay start?
Driven by the fragmented and inefficient state of online payments in India, Shashank teamed up with Harshil Mathur to launch Razorpay. The venture was born out of a vision to simplify and streamline digital transactions for Indian businesses in 2014, making them as seamless as global standards.
Shashank is known for his sharp product thinking, technical depth, and relentless focus on user experience — key traits that have shaped Razorpay’s journey from a startup to a fintech powerhouse. Shashank did his schooling from St. Xavier’s High School, Patna.

He won the EY Entrepreneur of the Year in 2022 & he was also recognized under Forbes 30 Under30 ASIA class of 2021. Additionally, he was also recognised in the list of 40 Under 40 by Fortune India in 2021.
Prior to his work experience at Razorpay, Shashank used to work as a software development engineer at Microsoft and Mathur used to work at Wireline Field Engineer at Schlumberger, as per their LinkedIn profiles.
