In this era where a good thriller holds the minds and hearts of the readers, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series—with a total of three books on its shelf—puts a reader into an emotional roller coaster and a formation of awe as the story develops.
The author, Holly Jackson, also leaves the reader with a good riddance of the hefty task of comprehending how the head and tail of the story come together in a logical sense. Pip Fitz Amobi, a 17-year-old school girl makes it her life's mission to uncover the truth behind a murder case in her otherwise perfectly good hometown as part of her academic project.
She, along with Ravi Singh (the brother of the convicted murderer), play the “crime in partner” couple who are adamant about solving this crime despite repercussions from friends and family. Even though it lands Amobi in numerous troubles, she does it for the sake of proving innocence, finding the culprit and serving justice.
This book is peculiar from the rest of the thriller books, with its uniqueness in the presentation—a guide that holds a record of the various murder tracks. Each book treads with more and more intensity as the truth keeps unfolding. When one goes through this book series, the revelations after revelations do not overwhelm the reader; Jackson does a great job of maintaining the same pace and track as that of the reader. The books give utmost importance to making sure there are no gaps left in between—the most common fault that plague thrillers, in general.
This book series, which made its way into a BBC web series (streaming on Netflix), is a worthy read for those who are on the lookout for a mysterious and thrilling journey. Also for those who always right guess the culprit of a perfectly good murder, this book will be a difficult one for you to crack.
