BMC Plans Monthly Text Reminders for Holding Tax, Trade Licence Fees

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is considering to send monthly text reminders to residents and traders for unpaid holding tax and trade licence fees to boost revenue collection.

The proposal, discussed in a recent council meeting of the BMC, awaits approval from Mayor Sulochana Das. If approved, taxpayers will receive texts at the start of each month, similar to utility bill notifications, as per reports.

The civic body collected Rs 94 crore in holding tax in 2023-24 and Rs 101 crore in 2024-25, aiming for Rs 120 crore in 2025-26, as per reports.
