Kia Integrates AI Voice Assistant into Driving Experience

Kia has introduced its AI-powered voice recognition system, AI Assistant, to the European market, following its debut in Korea (July 2024, EV3) and the United States (November 2024, Kia K4).

The AI Assistant enables conversational interaction between vehicle occupants and the car. It interprets user intent and context to provide relevant responses to a wide range of queries, from vehicle features to general information. The system adapts its responses based on the detail and context provided.

Users can activate the system by pressing the voice recognition button on the steering wheel or saying, “Hey Kia.” They can then ask for information like restaurant recommendations, scenic parking spots, or guidance on in-car features. For example, drivers can inquire about available driving assistance systems for traffic or how features like Highway Driving Assistant function.

Integrated with Kia’s connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) system, the AI Assistant is designed for continuous updates via Over-the-Air (OTA) technology. These updates will gradually enhance the system’s capabilities and allow previously built compatible vehicles, such as the EV3, to access the latest version.

Kia’s AI Assistant broadens voice command capabilities beyond traditional functions, allowing for more extensive interaction. Users can ask open-ended questions, such as travel tips or cultural customs, and even request simplified explanations of scientific concepts.

The system is standard on European EV3 models manufactured from March 2025. Previously produced vehicles will receive the AI Assistant via OTA updates. Kia plans to expand the AI Assistant to additional models equipped with the ccNC system in the future.
