In Pictures: Crowds Flock To Katraj Zoo In Pune As Summer Vacations Begin
As summer vacations have begun, crowds have started flocking to the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in Katraj
The zoo is home to around 66 species of wildlife, including mammals, birds and reptiles
The 130-acre space is divided into three parts: an animal orphanage, a snake park, and a zoo. It also includes a 42-acre lake
The biggest attractions here are the white tiger and the white peacock
As per the official website, the zoo is home to 16 reptile species, 22 mammal species and four bird species
To accommodate the rising footfall this summer, the zoo has extended its visiting hours by half an hour—from 9:30am to 5:30pm
According to Dr Rajkumar Jadhav, the zoo director, the zoo sees a daily footfall of 4,000 to 18,000 visitors during the summer, with numbers rising on weekends
Several arrangements have been made to assist visitors during the summer heat. These include battery-operated cars for internal transport, drinking water facilities, toilet blocks, resting sheds and seating areas
For added convenience, free Wi-Fi is also available at key locations within the zoo
The zoo is closed on Wednesdays
