Meet IAS officer B Chandrakala, popularly called ‘Lady Singham’, transferred from her current position due to…, she will now work as…

In a late-night reshuffle, the Yogi Adityanath government transferred nine IAS officers across Uttar Pradesh. One of the most talked-about names on the list was that of B. Chandrakala, known for her fearless attitude and no-nonsense working style. Until now, Chandrakala was serving as the Secretary of Women Welfare and Panchayati Raj departments. However, in the new order, she has been relieved of the Panchayati Raj charge. She will now continue only as Secretary, Women Welfare.

B. Chandrakala is not just another bureaucrat, she’s a name that once echoed not just in Uttar Pradesh, but across the country. Known for her bold decisions, surprise inspections, and action-oriented approach, she earned the nicknames like ‘lady singham’ or a ‘dabangg’ among the public.

Originally from Karimnagar in Telangana, Chandrakala cracked the UPSC Civil Services Exam in 2007, securing an All India Rank of 409. She had scored 1078 marks out of a total 2078. Her UPSC roll number was 015080.

She became widely known after several videos of her surprise inspections went viral online. In some clips, Chandrakala could be seen directly confronting civic officials often catching them off guard over poor sanitation or the use of low-quality materials in construction work.

Her time as the District Magistrate of Bulandshahr was particularly eventful. She gained public attention for her open criticism of substandard infrastructure projects. In one such viral video, she’s seen inspecting a poorly built pavement and sewer line, scolding municipal officers on the spot. Unapologetically bold, she even warned them of legal action, threatening to file FIRs if any corruption was found.

Chandrakala didn’t hesitate to question not just bureaucrats, but also local politicians, if she felt public money was being misused. Her strong, straightforward style earned her a reputation as a no-nonsense officer who wasn’t afraid to speak up—no matter who was watching.

Interestingly, by the time she became an IAS officer, Chandrakala was already married. Her husband, A. Ramulu, is an engineer by profession.

During her career, she has held several key positions and served as District Magistrate (DM) in major districts like Hamirpur, Bulandshahr, and Meerut, among others. Her dynamic work style and strong stand against corruption made her a favorite among many citizens.

While the recent transfer may have slightly shifted her responsibilities, B. Chandrakala’s reputation as a strong and fearless officer remains unchanged.

9 Senior IAS Officers Transferred in Uttar Pradesh

In a significant late-night reshuffle on Monday, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government transferred nine IAS officers, bringing key changes across departments. One of the most notable changes is the posting of 2002-batch officer Sameer Verma. Previously serving as Secretary in the Social Welfare Department, he will now take over as Inspector General, Registration, Uttar Pradesh.

This reshuffle also comes shortly after the appointment of Vijay Kiran Anand known for his leadership during the Maha Kumbh Mela as Secretary of the Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department and CEO of Invest UP.

The move is seen as part of the state government’s efforts to tighten administrative efficiency and align its top officers with key development and policy goals in the coming months.
