Scuffle erupts between police, farmers near Punjab CM’s function in Sangrur village
A scuffle broke out between protesting farmers and the police on Monday near Chhajli village, where Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was attending the inauguration ceremony of a newly established School of Eminence.
The clash occurred more than 100 meters away from the venue, as police forces stopped the farmers from proceeding towards the site.
The farmers, affiliated with the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Azad) and BKU (Sidhupur) factions, had gathered to question the CM about the police action taken against farmers at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders on March 19.
Raj Singh Therri, a BKU (Azad) leader, said despite the high-handedness of the police, they chose to end their protest in a peaceful and disciplined manner after the CM left the venue.
