Train passing through Chenab Arch Bridge

The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) section also includes the Chenab Railway Bridge. It is the world’s highest railway arch bridge. This will provide direct rail connectivity between New Delhi and Kashmir via Katra.

Trial was done in January

Indian Railways conducted a trial run of the first Vande Bharat train from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) railway station to Srinagar railway station on 23 January. Apart from the Chenab bridge, this train will also pass through the Anji Khad bridge. Anji Khad bridge is India’s first cable-based railway bridge.

Why was PM’s visit cancelled?

No official reason has been given as to why PM Modi’s proposed visit was cancelled. However, some sources have said that according to the Meteorological Department, the weather will be bad in Katra and its surrounding areas on 18 and 19 April and there is a possibility of heavy rain. In such a situation, this visit of PM Modi has been cancelled.
