‘Daveed’ OTT release: When and where to watch Antony Varghese’s boxing drama

More than two months after its theatrical release, boxing drama Daveed is set to make its OTT debut this week. The Govind Vishnu-directed drama, which hit the theatres on Valentine’s Day, will arrive on Zee 5 on April 18 – a great opportunity for those who missed out on the big-screen action.

Daveed is essentially a David and Goliath story. The film chronicles Ashiq Abu, a former boxer-turned-security guard for celebrities. Ashiq is tasked to provide security to international boxing champion, Sainul Akhmadov, but things go array when he has to step back into the ring to prove his might against him. With intense fight scenes paired with hooks and uppercuts, the film promises to be a bloody entertainer. The film features Antony “Pepe” Varghese in the lead role, along with Kichu Tellis, Jess Kukku, Vijayaraghavan, and Lijomol Jose.

It is worth noting that Daveed was Govind Vishnu’s debut directorial and a courageous first effort from him. He penned the script in collaboration with Deepu Rajeevan. Salu K. Thomas, most recognised for his work on Jeo Baby's directorial The Great Indian Kitchen and Kaathal—The Core—helmed the cinematography.

Musical maestro Justin Varghese, best known for his work on Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela, Thanneer Mathan Dinangal, Stree 2, Sky Force, and more recently Basil Joseph-starrer Ponman, composed the score for the film.

Daveed did not have a celebratory theatrical release and received mixed reviews from critics. It has a slow run at the box office, earning only Rs 90 lakh on day one, according to Sacnilk. The film ultimately grossed Rs 6 crore against a budget of Rs 9 crore.
