Meet man who quit high-paying job at Ratan Tata’s TCS to become farmer, now has annual turnover of Rs…, his business is…

Many people in India are turning back to the roots of farming and finding not just success, but also peace of mind. One such inspiring story is that of Jitendra Mann from Sonipat, Haryana. After spending several years working with TCS in major cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai, Jitendra made a life-changing decision—he quit his corporate job to take up farming full-time. Jitendra, along with his wife Sarla, launched their own farming brand called ‘Husband Wife Farm’, which has grown steadily and clocked a turnover of around Rs. 30 lakh in FY24. But success wasn’t the only reason behind this switch. The real motivation was health.

In his early 40s, Jitendra began facing serious health challenges high blood pressure and intense joint pain. The long hours at a desk, daily metro commutes, and the fast-paced city lifestyle had taken a toll on his well-being. “I used to stay back at work until 1 a.m. and thought I was doing fine health-wise,” he shared in a conversation with The Better India. “But when I was diagnosed with a BP of 160 and had to start medication, it hit me—that this might be my life now.”

Realising that the corporate grind was slowly draining him, Jitendra and Sarla chose to return to their village. Today, they lead a simpler and more fulfilling life, growing organic produce and promoting natural farming methods.

From Terrace Garden to Thriving Farm

It started small, with a vision to grow organic moringa in the cleanest and most nutritious way possible. But what began as a home experiment has now grown into a full-fledged brand with a purpose.

During his early farming days, Jitendra noticed a disturbing trend, many farmers were using dirty or contaminated water to grow food. This deeply concerned him, especially knowing that much of Delhi’s population consumes produce from these areas. He was also alarmed to see how health issues like high blood pressure and joint pain—once seen mostly in the elderly—were now appearing in younger people and even children.

Determined to do things differently, Jitendra and his wife Sarla turned to safe, sustainable practices. Sharing their method, Sarla explains, “We handpick the moringa stems, wash them twice, and tie them into small bundles to make drying easier. The leaves are dried with large fans and inside a greenhouse setup, where the heat is naturally 8 to 10 degrees higher than the outside temperature. Within 12 hours, the leaves turn crisp. Then we remove the stems, grind the leaves in a pulveriser, and sift out any leftover stalks before packing the powder.”

Their dedication to cleanliness and nutrition paid off. Today, their 200g packs of moringa powder sell for Rs. 650, and their monthly income touches Rs. 3.5 lakh. From just one acre of land, they earn close to Rs. 10 lakh per season. Their brand, Husband Wife Farm, has found loyal customers in cities like Delhi, Gurugram, Bengaluru, and Mumbai.

Looking back, Jitendra firmly believes leaving his high-stress city life for the quiet of village farming was the best decision he ever made. Now, he and Sarla live a healthier, more peaceful life, surrounded by clean air, nature, and the satisfaction of growing something meaningful.
