All 23 lakh women not getting Rs 1,500: Jai Ram

Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today accused Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur of trying to mislead women, as the government had not provided the Rs 1,500 monthly assistance to all 23 lakh of them in the state.

Thakur, in a statement issued here, said that the Chief Minister made no new announcements on the occasion of Himachal Day and kept harping on what he had said and promised in the past. “The guarantee of providing Rs 1,500 assistance every month was not just for the women of Kaza and Pangi but for all 23 lakh eligible women of the state,” he added. The guarantee was for all women between 21 and 60 years of age but now the state government had imposed conditions to exclude a number of them, he alleged.

Thakur said that the Chief Minister had chosen Kaza and Pangi for the disbursement of money to eligible women as their number in these areas was very small. “The Congress government is not in a position to fulfil the election guarantee of providing Rs 1,500 per month to all eligible women of the state, so now riders are being imposed, which amounts to deceiving them,” he added.

He said, “Sukhu had told the women of Kaza last year that all of you would get Rs 1,500 per month on April 15, 2025. Now, he has done the same thing in Pangi where the number of women is very small. Why is the government not providing this amount to all 23 lakh women of the state.”
