2 Naxalites Killed In Encounter In Chhattisgarh, AK-47 Recovered

Two hardcore Naxals were killed in an encounter with the security forces at the Kondagaon-Narayanpur border in Chhattisgarh. IG Bastar P Sundarraj said on Wednesday that an AK-47 and two bodies were recovered from the site. A search operation is underway in the area.

This comes a day after a Naxalite carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head surrendered before police in Chhattisgarh's Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district.

The Naxalite, Rupesh Mandavi alias Sukhdev, turned himself in before the police on Tuesday, citing disillusionment with the hollow and inhuman Maoist ideology and rising differences within the Naxalite outfit, news agency PTI reported citing an official.

According to the police, he was also impressed by the state government's new surrender and rehabilitation policy and the surrender campaign 'Operation Prayaas' run by the district police.

Sukhdev had joined the Naxalite movement in 2012 and was an active Kotari Area Committee member. He was also the Local Organisation Squad deputy commander under the Rajnandgaon-Kanker Border division of the outlawed Maoist movement.

Police said that Sukhde was provided an assistance of Rs 50,000 and will be further rehabilitated as per the government's policy, PTI reported.
