Follow path of social justice, equality shown by Babasaheb: DC to residents
The 134th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar was commemorated with a district-level event organised by the Punjab Government at Dr Ambedkar Bhavan.
Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal urged citizens to embrace Babasaheb’s vision, emphasising that social justice, equality and educational advancement can be achieved by adhering to his principles.
Addressing the gathering, Panchal described Dr Ambedkar not only as the architect of India’s Constitution but also as a global beacon of inspiration. “Babasaheb’s ideology continues to guide us toward a just and inclusive society,” he said.
Highlighting key initiatives, Panchal noted that under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, 3,100 students in Kapurthala’s schools and colleges have received freeship cards to support their education.
Additionally, under the Inter-Caste Marriage Scheme, 35 beneficiaries have been granted financial assistance totalling Rs 17.50 lakh. The Ashirwad Scheme has disbursed Rs 4.62 crore to 906 beneficiaries in the district, further empowering marginalised communities.
Lalita Saklani, Chairperson of the District Planning Board, encouraged attendees to draw inspiration from Babasaheb’s life of resilience and determination. She urged students to leverage government schemes for Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and minorities to pursue higher education and build a brighter future. During the event, students Amanpreet Kaur, Mandeep Kaur, Anmol and Kuldeep Singh shared their success stories, crediting Punjab Government welfare schemes for enabling their educational journeys.
