Delhi Cabinet okays 3-month extension of EV policy, continues power subsidy

The Delhi Government on Tuesday approved an extension of its Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy by three months and continuation of power subsidy for existing domestic consumers, farmers, lawyers with chambers and victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

The decision for the same was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta who also decided that the existing EV policy will continue to remain in force until the new policy is finalised.

Power Minister Ashish Sood said the Cabinet has approved the continuation of electricity subsidies. Addressing a press conference post meeting, Sood said the “rumours” that the new government in Delhi would terminate power subsidy have ended.

Taking a dig at the AAP, Sood said, “Self-proclaimed unemployed political leaders will keep spreading lies every day, but today’s Cabinet decision exposes their baseless propaganda.”

Under the existing scheme introduced by the previous AAP administration, each domestic household receives up to 200 units of electricity free per month. For those consuming between 201 and 400 units, a 50% subsidy is provided—capped at Rs 800 per month.

Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh, said discussions on the new EV 2.0 Policy is currently underway and the existing EV policy will remain in effect until the new policy is finalised. Highlighting the delays in disbursing existing EV subsidies by the previous government leading to difficulty in EV-related incentives, he said the current government is committed to addressing these gaps and ensuring a smoother, more transparent implementation going forward.

Responding to recent rumours about restrictions on auto-rickshaws in the city, he dismissed them as “absolutely baseless.” He clarified, “No auto-rickshaw will be stopped. These rumours have no foundation whatsoever.”

“Providing quality public transport to the citizens of Delhi is our top priority,” Singh concluded.
