Pune Man Tears Passport Pages To Hide Bangkok Trips From Family, Booked
A 51-year-old man from Pune was booked by the Mumbai Police for defrauding immigration authorities at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Monday. The action was taken after the elderly man reportedly tore the pages from his passport in response to hide his Bangkok's trips from his family.
The immigration officer, Rajiv Ranjan Kumar, who filed the complaint, noticed the irregularity after the passenger reached the immigration counter. After the passenger presented his boarding pass and passport, it was discovered that he had arrived from Indonesia via Vietnam, according to the Indian Express.
During a detailed check, the officer noticed that multiple pages had been removed from the passenger's passport. The individual was then taken aside for further questioning. According to the FIR, the passenger reportedly confessed that he had torn out the pages nearly a year earlier to conceal past visits to Bangkok from his family.
Labeling the act as unlawful interference with official travel documents, immigration officials lodged a complaint at the Sahar Police Station. The man has been charged under Section 12 of the Passports Act and Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
Passenger Arrested After Rs 6.3 Crore Gold Found In His Shoes At Mumbai Airport
In a separate incident, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has apprehended a passenger at Mumbai airport after uncovering gold worth Rs 6.3 crore hidden in his shoes, an official said on Saturday (April 13). Following this, the DRI also arrested a potential buyer linked to the gold smuggling network, the official added.
Acting on a tip-off, officers from the premier anti-smuggling agency intercepted the passenger upon his arrival at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport from Bangkok. Upon inspection, officials found 6.7 kg of smuggled gold bars concealed in the passenger's footwear. He was subsequently taken into custody, according to a report by news agency PTI.
