BJD Stages Massive Protest over Burning of Biju Patnaik’s Statue

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today staged a massive protest condemning the burning of a statue of legendary leader and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik in Patnagarh, Bolangir.

Over hundreds of BJD leaders and workers gathered near Bhubaneswar airport under another statue of the iconic leader to condemn the act.

The BJD described the incident as a “heinous and despicable” attack on Odisha’s pride, asserting that it has outraged the state’s 4.5 crore residents.

The party accused the BJP-led state government of failing to maintain law and order, calling the incident a reflection of administrative collapse.

The BJD further alleged a deliberate conspiracy to erase Biju Patnaik’s legacy, pointing to the removal of his name from state schemes and the cancellation of Panchayati Raj Diwas celebrations on March 5 as evidence of efforts to undermine his contributions.

Biju Patnaik transcends political lines; he is a freedom fighter and visionary whose legacy embodies Odia values. Such acts of vandalism are an unforgivable insult, the BJD stated.

The BJD also called for swift and severe punishment for those responsible and urged the government to prevent future acts of vandalism.
