'Never Give Up': Renowned Commentator Alan Wilkins Reveals Triumphing Over Throat Cancer, Heading To India For IPL 2025
Veteran commentator Alan Wilkins has expressed his pleasure at heading to India to cover the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after being cleared of throat cancer. Wilkins took to his official account on X (formerly Twitter) and said how he feels young and is proud of not giving up.
A former cricketer, who has featured in 107 first-class matches and 104 List A fixtures, Wilkins entered into the commentary role in 1984 and has worked with the likes of SABC, BBC and ESPN. Aside from Cricket, the 71-year-old has also commentated in sports like Rugby, Tennis and Golf.
Taking to X, Wilkins wrote:
"Knowing that I am heading to India to work on the @IPL after being given the All Clear from throat cancer by @VelindreCS @VelindreTrust @Velindre makes me feel incredibly blessed. And “young” again! Never Give Up."
Notably, he is not the first cricketer to be diagnosed with cancer as Sir Geoffrey Boycott had also suffered from the same last year.
