Fawad Khan's Abir Gulaal Music To Be Launched At Dubai's Global Village On April 19 As Makers Anticipate Threat In India

With rising controversy around the upcoming film Abir Gulaal, starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor, the makers have planned to move forward with their promotional campaign - despite opposition from Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). The political party recently voiced its objection to the film, condemning the casting of the Pakistani actor who is all set to return to Bollywood after a nine-year hiatus.

Undeterred by the backlash, the film's team is pushing ahead with its original promotional plans.

According to a report in Mid-Day, the music launch of Abir Gulaal is set to take place at Global Village in Dubai on April 19, ahead of the film’s theatrical release on May 9. Both lead actors, Fawad and Vaani, are expected to be present at the event.

Why is the event taking place in Dubai?

Celebrated music composer Amit Trivedi, who has scored the film’s soundtrack, will headline the music launch with a LIVE performance.

The decision to host the event in Dubai was reportedly made early in the planning stages. "The team anticipated potential backlash in India due to Fawad's involvement," a source informed the publication and added, "Dubai was a natural choice - it's neutral ground, home to a large South Asian diaspora, and Fawad enjoys considerable popularity there."

Designed as a concert-style experience, the music launch will feature Amit performing select tracks from the film. While the event itself won’t require a separate ticket, it will be open to the public who have paid the general entry fee for Global Village, the report stated.

Directed by Aarti S Bagdi, Abir Gulaal is a romantic drama that has already drawn attention for its cross-border casting. Recently, the makers unveiled the first song from the film titled Khudaya Ishq, sung by Arijit Singh and Shilpa Rao.

Controversy over Fawad Khan's Bollywood comeback

Fawad Khan won hearts in India with performances in films like Khoobsurat, Kapoor & Sons and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

While fans have welcomed the news of his return with excitement, political factions and certain sections of the public continue to express opposition, citing ongoing cross-border tensions.

Soon after the teaser of Abir Gulaal was shared by the makers, MNS opposed the film's release in India and also threatened those who are supporting the actors.

MNS spokesperson Ameya Khopkar reacted strongly to the film’s release date announcement, warning that the party will not allow the film to be screened in Maharashtra.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam had also commented on the controversy, stating that Indian audiences do not prefer watching films featuring Pakistani artists. He further advised Pakistani actors to focus on their own industry rather than seeking opportunities in India.
