Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath came down heavily on his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee for her "silence" regarding the violent protests in her state over the Waqf Amendment Act.

Adityanath accused Banerjee of deeming the violent protesters as "messengers of peace" and said she had given them a complete free hand in the name of secularism.

"These were people who understood only force and thus could not be pacified by words," the UP CM said at a public meeting in Hardoi.

He used the Hindi phrase laaton ke bhoot baton se nahin maante (those who are used to violence do not understand words), to describe how the protesters should be dealt with.

Murshidabad district of West Bengal has been witnessing violent protests over the last week and the Ministry of Home Affairs has said that there is a possible hand of Bangladeshi miscreants in the same.

Adityanath said that those who preferred Bangladesh should go to that country. He also took on the Congress and the Samajwadi Party for their "silence" over the violence.

He accused the opposition of inciting violence in the name of the Waqf amendments and trying to create another Bangladesh in India.

The UP CM thanked the judiciary for directing the Centre to deploy central forces to contain the violence in West Bengal.

The Calcutta High Court had ordered the deployment of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) in Murshidabad where three people lost their lives in the clashes.

On Monday, too, Adityanath spoke on the violence in West Bengal and alleged that people were being dragged out of their homes and killed.

Taking potshots at those parties which are "projecting themselves as the protectors of Dalits", the UP CM claimed only the BJP has been speaking for them.
