New Expressway: Mumbai to Goa in just 6 hours, Nitin Gadkari announced the date of launch

The Mumbai-Goa Expressway is going to open soon, which will reduce the travel time from 12 hours to 6 hours. This 376 km long expressway has 41 tunnels and 21 bridges.

New Delhi. There is good news for tourists visiting Goa. Konkan Expressway, which connects Mumbai to Goa, also known as New Mumbai-Goa Highway, will open soon. With this expressway opening for traffic, it will take only six hours to travel from Mumbai to Goa. Currently, it takes more than 12 hours to complete this journey. Union Minister Gadkari gave this information while addressing a program in Dadar on Monday. He said, “There were many difficulties regarding the Mumbai-Goa highway but don’t worry… we will complete 100 percent of the road work by this June.” Referring to the difficulties in completing this important road project, Gadkari said that there were fights between brothers, cases in courts and endless complexities in giving compensation for land. Now those issues have been resolved and work on the Mumbai-Goa highway has gained momentum.

Konkan Expressway has been built on the lines of Pacific Highway built in California, USA. The expressway is so beautiful that travelling on it will be no less than a picnic. High green mountains on one side and the view of the sea on the other will fill the travellers with excitement. This 376 km long expressway is being built along the Konkan coast, hence it will be called ‘Konkan Expressway’. A 120 km stretch road is also being built along the expressway. In this way the total distance will be 498 km. It is estimated that Rs 68,000 crore will be spent on its construction.

Konkan Expressway Route

The Konkan Expressway will connect Panvel (Navi Mumbai) to Sindhudurg, which will also include Raigad and Ratnagiri. This expressway will cover 17 talukas of Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg and 232 villages of 3 districts. 14 interchanges have been built on the expressway.

Construction started in 2011

Work on this project started in the year 2011. According to NHAI, the work of the stretch road being built on this expressway is almost complete. This road is being built in two parts. The first is from Panvel to Kasu (42.3 km) and Kasu to Indapur (42.3 km). 146 hectares of forest land also had to be acquired for the expressway.

41 tunnels and 21 bridges

Tunnels and bridges are being built to cross the difficult roads, rivers and mountains of the Konkan region. About 41 tunnels and 21 big bridges have been built on the Konkan Expressway. There will also be 41 small bridges in various districts on this route. The largest bridge has been built on Dharamtar Creek in Karja, which is 10.2 kilometers long. The total length of the 7 big bridges will be about 27 kilometers.
