Bad news for Indians as mass sacking in Google set to affect teams in India due to…

Sundar Pichai led Google is reportedly considering reshuffling roles at its Bengaluru and Hyderabad offices. It may move employees to more revenue-generating projects rather than implementing immediate layoffs, according to a Business Standard report. This comes after recent layoffs, ongoing global restructuring and cost-cutting efforts by the tech giant.

Instead of cutting jobs, Google may reassign engineering talent from its Indian offices to high-impact projects that help to generate more revenue. By this step the company is optimising its  workforce rather than layoffs and utilising it for other roles.

However, all employees can not save their jobs. Media reports citing sources claimed  that staff in advertising, sales, and marketing roles could face layoffs as part of the ongoing restructuring process.

Google Layoffs

Globally, Google has already cut jobs in its Platforms and Devices division, which oversees areas like Android software, Pixel smartphones, and the Chrome browser. Earlier this year, the company merged teams within the division, led to voluntary exits and job reductions.

Reports claim that employees from the advertising, sales, and marketing departments in India may also be impacted by this latest round of layoffs, however exact numbers are not yet disclosed by the company.

A Google spokesperson emphasized the company’s focus on becoming “more nimble and operating more effectively.” These adjustments are part of its larger strategy to streamline operations and align resources with revenue-generating opportunities.

The coming weeks are expected to bring clarity on the extent of the impact on Indian teams.
