Trump Tariffs: X User Claims White House Press Secretary Wore 'Made In China' Dress; Netizens React As Karoline Leavitt's Red Outfit Photos Go Viral

An X user and diplomat from China, Zhang Zhisheng, alleged a red dress worn by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was a 'Made in China' product. The claim surfaced amidst the US-China trade tariff scenario. Taking a dig at Leavitt, Zhang wrote, "Accusing China is business. Buying China is life".

In the now-viral post, the X user shared a photo of the US official dressed in a red and black lace dress, which he mentioned was sourced from China.

Netizens react

He posted screenshots of a Chinese website offering this outfit. However, netizens debated whether Leavitt's dress was actually from China. Trump supporters defended her and suggested the Chinese website might be counterfeit and she would be wearing an original designer's production.

"Everything China makes is stolen from other people. Her dress is an original", one wrote. "No one said they don’t like stuff from China. No one is anti-China merchandise. Just tariff it. I think you got the wrong message", the second user said. Another netizen captioned the post as "Hypocrites exposed".

More details

"The beautiful lace on the dress was recognized by an employee of a Chinese company as its product", Zhang posted on X alongside the screenshots of the Chinese shopping website, where the outfit was listed for 569 yuan (Rs 12,848).

The Chinese diplomat pointed out a Self Portrait, a clothing brand established in 2013 by founder-designer Han Chong in London.

The product description mentioned that it was created by the Malaysian designer, but was manufactured in China.

Donald Trump announced significant changes over the last week to his trade agenda, which led to a bloodbath in global markets. On April 9, 2025, the US President raised the tariff on Chinese goods to 125%. Days later, on April 11, China dismissed Trump's decision as a “joke” and raised its own tariff against the U.S. to 125%
