India’s benchmark equity indices, the Nifty 50 and Sensex, surged in early trade on Tuesday, buoyed by strong global cues that lifted investor confidence and sparked a bullish wave on Dalal Street. At 9:30 am, the Sensex had rallied 1,576.45 points or 2.10 per cent to 76,733.71, while the Nifty climbed 470.20 points or 2.06 per cent to 23,298.75. Market breadth was strongly positive, with 2,529 stocks advancing, 374 declining, and 146 remaining unchanged.
Sectorial Update
All sectoral indices were trading in the green. Nifty Auto led the charge with a nearly 3 per cent jump, followed by a 2 per cent gain in Nifty Bank. IT, pharma, and metal indices also posted significant gains.
Broader Market Update
The broader markets lagged behind the frontline indices, with the Nifty Smallcap 100 and Nifty Midcap 100 rising by 1.3 percent each.
Auto and auto component stocks were among the top gainers, driven by strong buying interest after former US President Donald Trump hinted at possible relief for automakers facing steep import tariffs. Shares of Tata Motors, M&M, Bharat Forge, and SAMIL jumped as much as 8 percent in early trade.
Ajay Bagga, Banking and Market Expert told ANI "Indian Markets are determined to see the positives today. The worst of Trump Tariff Tantrums is perhaps over, at least for 90 days at the worst. Markets will look at earnings and management guidance for clarity through the Trump Policy Uncertainty. India stands out as a strong structural domestic story, and should attract some FPI flows once the Trump Policy is crystallised."
Asian M
In broader Asian markets, sentiment was upbeat. Taiwan's weighted index rose over 1.6 percent, South Korea's KOSPI gained 0.79 percent, Japan's Nikkei 225 advanced 0.88 percent, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index edged up 0.07 percent.
Meanwhile, several Indian companies are set to announce their March quarter earnings on Tuesday, including ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency, GM Breweries, MRP Agro, Hathway Bhawani Cabletel and Datacom, and Delta Industrial Resources.
