New Delhi: In a significant development that promises to boost India’s technology market, the iPhone maker Foxconn is planning to set up its first facility in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida. According to news agency PTI quoting sources, the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer and the Uttar Pradesh government have started discussions regarding the facility. Foxconn is the biggest iPhone producer in the country.
Reports further add that the investment pitch was made by Invest UP to Foxconn at the time of the final land allocation for the HCL-Foxconn chip joint venture Vama Sundari. An official source at the Centre also confirmed that discussions have started to set up a Foxconn electronics manufacturing services unit in Uttar Pradesh.
The Yogi Adityanath-led UP government has allocated 48 acres of land already for the Vama Sundari project in sector 28 of YEIDA. An investment of Rs 3,706 crore will be made initially in setting up an outsourced semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility and expects to create around 4,000 jobs.
“The Uttar Pradesh government through Invest UP is in discussion with Foxconn to get their electronics manufacturing unit in the state. During the discussion, the state government mentioned the availability of 300-acre land under Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA),” a source said.
“The discussions are at a very initial stage. There is no discussion on the type of products…Foxconn will manufacture,” another source involved in the discussion said. The query sent to the Uttar Pradesh government remained unanswered, while Foxconn did not comment on the development.
Uttar Pradesh has become the favourite destination of renowned mobile phone manufacturers like Samsung, Vivo, Oppo, Dixon, and Lava, among others. The brands housed in Utter Pradesh jointly account for over 80 per cent of the country’s smartphone market share.
Mobile phone exports from India have crossed an all-time high of Rs 2 lakh crore in FY 2024-25, a 55 per cent growth over the Rs 1.29 lakh crore recorded in FY 2023-24, according to ICEA.

The Indian Railways has earned an additional revenue of approximately Rs 8,913 crore in five years by withdrawing concessions for senior citizens, according to replies from the Centre for Railway Information Systems on a Right to Information Act applications. The question of restoring concessions on train tickets for senior citizens was raised in the parliament by members on several occasions, however, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that the Railways already pays 46 per cent concession on an average to every passenger.
Males and transgenders over the age of 60 and females over the age of 58 used to avail 40 per cent and 50 per cent discounts respectively on train tickets for all classes before March 20, 2020, when the Railway Ministry withdrew it due to the onset of the Covid pandemic.
