BSP observes Ambedkar Jayanti with ‘Save Punjab’ campaign

The birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the architect of Indian Constitution, was celebrated by the Bahujan Samaj Party under the “Save Punjab” campaign in village Nangal, Phillaur.

At this district-level event, BSP Punjab president, former Rajya Sabha member, and in-charge of Chandigarh and Jammu & Kashmir, Dr Avtar Singh Karimpuri, participated as the chief guest.

Addressing a massive gathering, Avtar Singh Karimpuri said that the BSP’s objective is to build the India of Dr Ambedkar’s dreams, where every section of society, including Punjab, can lead a prosperous and dignified life. He further stated that some anti-social forces were trying to disturb the communal harmony in state, but the BSP will never allow their plans to succeed.

He accused parties like the Congress, BJP and AAP of misleading Dr Ambedkar’s followers in the guise of honouring him. He said that the true followers of Dr Ambedkar are aware of the deceptive tactics of these parties. Karimpuri pointed out that historically, the Congress party has always been against Dr Ambedkar. If Congress, which ruled the country for the longest time, had been sincere towards him, they could have implemented the Constitution in its true spirit for the betterment of all sections of society. But there has always been a gap between words and actions of the Congress, he alleged.

Targeting the BJP, he said that Home Minister Amit Shah insulted Dr Ambedkar in Parliament and has not apologised till date. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the entire BJP leadership have remained silent in the matter.

Coming down heavily on the Aam Aadmi Party, Karimpuri said the AAP government in Punjab has completely failed. Statues of Dr. Ambedkar are being repeatedly desecrated in the state, and the government has failed to protect them. He further stated that while AAP claims to consider Dr Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh as their ideals, the party deliberately removed Dr Ambedkar’s photos from every flex board during the state-level martyrdom day event for Bhagat Singh in Khatkar Kalan. Karimpuri accused AAP of trying to mislead the Dalit community by showcasing Dr Ambedkar’s photos, but his true followers are fully aware of these tactics.

He appealed to all Dalit organisations, employee unions, Sikh groups, Ambedkarite groups, Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha, Bhagwan Valmiki Sabha, intellectuals, Hindu organisations, writers, artists and the entire Punjabi community to give the Bahujan Samaj Party a chance for the reconstruction of Punjab.

Meanwhile, former Union Minister Vijay Sampla along with his supporters paid tributes to Dr Ambedkar and warned anti-national forces like Pannun to stop anti-India activities. BJP activists remained present and sat on a dharna before the statue of Ambedkar till this evening.

Phagwara: Several political, social and religious leaders like Congress leader MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, AAP’s Joginder Singh Maan, Gurdip Singh Kang, Dalit leaders Harbhagwan Suman, Jarnail Nangal, Harji Maan, Kamal Dhaliwal, BSP leader Harbhghan Singh Balalon, Tej Pal Basra, Mayor Ram Pal Uppal, Parveen Banga etc paid tributes to Dr Ambedkar and garlanded his statue at Hargobind Nagar, Phagwara.
