Floral tribute paid to Babasaheb Ambedkar in Amritsar
Leaders and workers of all the political parties paid tribute to Dr B R Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, on his 134th birth anniversary at the Heritage Street here on Monday.
BJP, Congress and AAP leaders competed with each other to pay floral tributes at the same statue, where an abortive attempt to vandalise it was done some months ago. In a swift action, onlookers chased the offender and handed over to the police, who swiftly arrested him.
Meanwhile, several events were held to pay floral tributes to B R Ambedkar at the same place. Amritsar Central Assembly Constituency MLA Dr Ajay Gupta today paid floral tributes at the Babasaheb’s statue.
On the occasion, Ambedkar Jayanti, organised by the Sant Samaj at the Heritage Street, made people aware of the importance of Babasaheb Dr BR Ambedkar. MLA Dr Gupta said today they feel proud to pay tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. He said under the Constitution, every section of the country got equal rights. The progress of any society depends on the progress of its weakest sections.
He said the AAP-led Punjab Government took a historic decision in the Cabinet on April 11 and approved reservation in government appointments for Scheduled Caste lawyers. He said now relaxation and special provisions would be applicable in the recruitment of law officers of Scheduled Caste category in the Advocate General’s office. He said this was being considered a big step towards social justice.
He described all these decisions as being in the interest of the public and the administration. He said the Punjab Government is committed to bringing transparency and efficiency in inclusive development and service delivery in the state.
MLA Dr Ajay Gupta said on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann allocated Rs 429.24 crore for post-Matric scholarship for Scheduled Caste students.
