Mohtali, Ghoran panchayats reel under erratic water supply

With the arrival of summer, residents of several gram panchayats in the Indora Assembly constituency are grappling with erratic piped water supply. Mohtali and Ghoran panchayats, in particular, have been experiencing acute water scarcity for the past few days, pushing residents to the brink of protest.

On Sunday, women from Mohtali panchayat staged a symbolic protest, gathering with empty buckets to highlight their plight. Residents of wards 3, 4, and 5 of the panchayat expressed deep frustration, stating they had repeatedly appealed to officials of the Jal Shakti Department and informed local elected representatives — but received no action in return. Many families are now forced to rely on paid water tankers to meet their daily needs.

A similar situation prevails in Samal village of Ghoran panchayat, where residents have been fetching water from neighbouring villages. Rajinder Singh, Up-Pradhan of Ghoran, confirmed that the panchayat had submitted a written complaint to the Jal Shakti Department, urging swift redress of the issue.

Facing mounting frustration, residents from both panchayats have warned they will launch protest demonstrations if their water woes are not resolved immediately.

A Jal Shakti Department official acknowledged the issue, attributing the disruption to a pipeline blockade in the affected areas. He assured that efforts were underway to rectify the problem and restore normal supply shortly.
