Chargesheet against swindler who duped Chandigarh advocate of Rs 3 lakh

The police have filed a chargesheet against a man for allegedly duping an advocate of Rs 3 lakh by promising him help to be appointed as an Additional Advocate General (AAG).

The chargesheet has been filed under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused. The complainant, Anoop Bajwa, had in February 2022 told the police he has been practicing before the Punjab Haryana High Court since 2011. He came in contact with the accused at the MLA Hostel, Sector 3, through common friends in November 2019.

The accused claimed that he shared a good relationship with politicians and high-ranking officials and could him get appointed in the Haryana Advocate General’s office as AAG. He asked him to arrange Rs 10 lakh, of which Rs 3 lakh were to be given before the appointment and the remaining sum after the issuing of the appointment letter.

The complainant forwarded his bio-data and transferred Rs 3 lakh to the accused’s account as asked.

When the list of AAG appointments was issued by the Haryana government, the complainant could not find his name on it. The accused later refused to return the amount, following which the advocate lodged the police complaint.
