Naib Tehsildar facing graft FIR demoted
In a rare case, a Naib Tehsildar in the Department of Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management has been demoted/reverted to the substantive post of Kanungo.
The orders, reverting Karamjeet Singh to the post of Kanungo, were issued by Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Financial Commissioner (Revenue) Anurag Verma last week.
This was reportedly done in connection with an FIR registered against the revenue officer in 2019 under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Charges have been framed against him in the court. The official was accused of accepting Rs 8,000 bribe.
A show-cause notice was served on the official last year, asking him to explain “why he should not be reverted to the post of Kanungo as his work and conduct has not been satisfactory during his probation period”.
Karamjeet Singh was promoted from Kanungo to Naib Tehsildar in 2019. Initially, his probation was for one year, but his performance was not found up to the mark. He also failed to avail the opportunity of personal hearing during the proceedings.
ACS Verma observed, “It is hereby ordered that Karamjeet Singh be reverted to his substantive post of Kanungo, with immediate effect.”
