Kalyan Rape Accused, Who Died By Suicide, Mentioned Depression In His Diary

Authorities in Thane have found a diary of a man in the Taloja prison cell, who was accused of raping and murdering a minor girl. In the diary he purportedly mentioned that he was depressed and did not blame anyone for his suicide, said the officials on Monday. 

Vishal Gawli was accused of kidnapping, raping and murdering a 12-year-old girl last year in Maharashtra's Kalyan town in Thane district. 

In the early hours of Sunday, he was found hanging in a toiled at the Taloja Central Jail in Navi Mumbai, said the police.

His last rites were held at a crematorium in Vitthal Wadi amid tight security and in the presence of his family members late Sunday night, reported PTI quoting sources.

Authorities found a diary in his cell in which he purportedly wrote that he was depressed as his wife was avoiding him and did not believe him, reported PTI quoting, an official from Kharghar police station. 

The accused also mentioned in the diary that he did not blame anyone for his act, the official added.

Earlier, the parents of the accused had demanded the death penalty of Gawli.

Rape-Murder Of Minor Girl 

On December 24, a 12-year-old girl went missing from Kolsewadi locality. Her body was found later at Bapgaon village in Padgha under Thane Rural police jurisdiction. 

Gawli and his wife, Sakshi Gawli were later arrested by the Kolsewadi police on charges of kidnapping for ransom, rape, murder, causing disappearance of evidence and other offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

A 498-page chargesheet was submitted by the police in court against the couple in February this year. 

According to police, Gawli raped and murdered the girl while Sakdhi helped him dump the body in Bapgaon.
