If Taj Mahal is build today, it would cost around Rs….
India takes pride in its rich culture, heritage and diversity. The history on which the modern India stands is replete with stories of yore that often angers us but also is amusing at the same time. One such amazement strikes when we look at the white mausoleum that stands as an emblem of love of devotion – the grand Taj Mahal. Ranked as one of the Seven Wonders of The World, this monument is truly marble-ous!
It was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the loving memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. As per history, it took around almost 22-25 years to build this wonder. The construction began in around 1632. The exquisite mosaic craftsmanship, Indo-Islamic architecture combined with Mughal and Indian touch, use of precious stones etc made it a magnificent structure in every sense. The precious stones like lapis lazuli, cornelian, onyx, gold, marble etc were procured from different corners of the world. Ever imagined how much treasury was empties in commissioning this architectural marvel.
Cost of Taj Mahal
There are several stories that go around about building of the Taj Mahal. Reportedly, several workers came from Persia, Ottoman and other places to build it. Also, more than 1000 elephants were part of this construction too. There is no exact number on how much was spent on Taj Mahal, however, several reports suggest that roughly must have taken almost 32 million Rs 3.2 crores.
Apart from these reports, an Indian Historian Jadunath Sarkar wrote a book titled ‘Studies in Mughal India’ wherein he revealed his version of Taj Mahal and its estimate cost. In the book the historian estimates the cost to be around 42 million rupees. So what if it was built today?
Some individual estimates consider that around Rs 70 billion or around USD 1 billion today would have been spent. Again, one cannot out a simple number to he cost but several reports estimate that more a billion would be a definite. According to ABP Live Hindi, if Taj Mahal is built today, it may cost around Rs 7500 crores.
While it is difficult to puta price tag on the wonder of the world, there is unlikely to see another such emblem of love in near centuries to come.
