Surjewala calls for decisive battle against attacks on Constitution
Congress leader and AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala today called for a decisive battle against the attacks on the Constitution and the conspiracy to end the rights of Dalits.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion of ‘Samvidhan Bachao-Adhikar Bachao’ sammelan organised to observe BR Ambedkar Jayanti in Kaithal, the Congress leader said the BJP’s Narendra Modi and Nayab Saini governments are conspiring to attack the rights of Baba Saheb’s India. While, on the one hand, the BJP is ending the reservation for Dalits, on the other, by cutting the budget for the welfare schemes of Dalits, they are being conspiratorially ‘thrown out’ from the participation in the government. This is against both the thinking and teachings of BR Ambedkar.
The Congress leader accused the BJP of conspiring to change the Constitution, ending the rights of poor, and called upon the public to take a pledge to save the Constitution.
He said: “The BJP is attacking reservation to break Baba Saheb’s dreams. More than 30 lakh jobs are lying vacant in the government institutions. By not filling the jobs, the BJP is ending reservation. Not only this, in the last 10 years, the Modi government earned Rs 4 lakh crores by selling 23 government factories and undertakings. As soon as big government industries are sold to private hands, reservation ends automatically."
He said: “The Modi government announces budget for Dalits with a great fanfare but does not spend it. If we look at the data of the Central Budget from 2019-20 to 2023-24, we will see that Rs 67,037 crore meant for the Dalit welfare has not been spent at all. In the last four years, Rs 6,493 crore allocated for the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for Dalit students was not spent at all. Also, atrocities on Dalits increased by 46 per cent between 2013 and 2022.
Criticising the Haryana Government, Surjewala said: “The BJP government first gives negligible Budget to Dalits and then it does not even spend it. Between 2014-15 and 2023-24, Rs 2,139 crore of Dalit budget allocation was not spent at all. Not only this, the Haryana Government does not spend 48 per cent of the money of post-matric scholarship of Dalits. It has also snatched the rights of Dalits and backward classes by ending reservation from HKRN recruitments.”
