‘Mom did not love me…’: When Dimple Kapadia slapped Twinkle Khanna for…
Twinkle Khanna is one of the most celebrated actors in Bollywood. She is the daughter of Dimple Kapadia and legendary actor Rajesh Khanna. The couple were blessed with two daughters, Twinkle and Rinke Khanna. In one of the interviews, Twinkle revealed details about her life in a family of stars. She spoke about how a playtime with her sister Rinke went wrong and how her mother Dimple reacted.
In an old interview with Rediff in 1999, Twinkle opened up about her early life. She talked about her childhood and how curious she was to know what her parents did on the sets. As a young teenager, she would eagerly wait for her parents to come back home from shoots and often used to crave attention and love.
Reflecting on the same, Twinkle said, “Now I know what it feels like to be there. You always want to be cuddled and fondled when you are a kid. You hate being yelled at and slapped. But when you get a smack, everything changes. It makes you aware of reality.”
Twinkle opened up about one of her childhood memories which also involved her sister Rinke. The actress-turned-author said that the incident, which started off as playful, ended in tears when she accidentally dropped her baby sister on the bed. Later, she also received a stern reaction from her mother.
Twinkle said, “When it came to handling Chinky — or Rinke, my kid sister — I was very protective. I used to carry her in my arms. But sometimes, I used to toss her up in the air and then catch her. Once, I was suddenly distracted when I threw her up, and she fell down with a thud. Even though she fell on the bed, Mummy was aghast and slapped me across the face. Initially, I cried a lot because I felt that Mum didn’t love me, but then I realised the truth after a few hours and apologised…”
Twinkle shared another incident from her early days when she faced an unexpected moment of on-stage embarrassment involving Shadab Khan, son of actor Amjad Khan.
She said, “I was very tense. Suddenly, my veil slid off my head. Even as I was trying to bend sideways and pick it up, Shadab Khan came in from the wings, picked up the veil, and put it back on my head. People found it amusing that a boy could actually come up on stage to do that. I was embarrassed and punched him on the nose after the play.”
