PWD Minister lays stone for road projects at Karsog

The week-long district-level Nalwar fair in Karsog, Mandi district, concluded on Friday with a closing ceremony attended by Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh.

The final day of the fair was marked by a cultural procession led by the idol of Mamleshwar Mahadev, which was ceremoniously carried from the temple to the fairground. Hundreds of devotees and local residents joined the colourful march, celebrating the region’s rich traditions.

During his visit, the minister laid the foundation stones for two road projects, collectively worth Rs 13.57 crore, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to the holistic development of rural areas.

The first project, a bypass road from the LPG godown in Nyara village to the Imla Khad–Baral Bridge, would be constructed under NABARD funding for Rs 1.44 crore. The 1.3-km stretch aims to ease traffic congestion in Karsog town and improve local connectivity.

The second project involves the development of a 14-kilometre road linking Mahota to Bagsyad, at an estimated cost of Rs 12.13 crore. The route would connect several remote villages and is expected to enhance socio-economic development in the region.

Addressing the gathering, the minister highlighted the importance of preserving Himachal Pradesh’s cultural heritage through traditional fairs and festivals. He said improving road connectivity remains a priority for the government and noted road upgrade projects worth Rs 60 crore are currently underway in Karsog, with a targeted completion timeline of 18 months.

He announced plans for developing parking infrastructure and constructing a stadium in Karsog. Additionally, he assured the public the Tattapani–Bakhrot road project would be pursued with the Centre on priority.

Calling for mutual respect across political lines, the minister praised the role of government officials and employees in delivering public service. The event concluded with traditional honours being presented to the Minister by SDM Gaurav Mahajan, Nagar Panchayat President Savita Gupta and other dignitaries.

Among the notable attendees were former Congress State General Secretary Prithvi Singh Negi, Congress candidate Mahesh Raj and former Block Congress President Hariom Sharma, along with various elected representatives and local leaders.
