Everyone waits for that one moment, one project that rockets your success through the roof. In the film industry, actors to filmmakers await one breakthrough movie that puts them on the map. This 2018 release was one such project for the cast. It marked a milestone for the cast as well as one of the singers.

This romantic comedy was is based on the life of two friends and how they navigate their bonds with changing relationships dynamics in their life. The film makes you laugh and cringe, dance to its songs and debate too. The movie is ‘Sonu Ki Titu ki Sweety’.

Controversy Amidst Success

The Luv Ranjan directorial was released in 2018. It starred Kartik Aaryan, Nushhrrat Bharucha, Sunny Singh, Alok Nath, Sonnalli Seygall among others. This was also small reunion for Kartik Aaryan, Sunny Singh and Nushrat Bharucha after ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ which was also based on friendship and its tribulations.

While the name of the film felt more like a tongue-twister, it ran in theatres for about 9 weeks! It garnered about Rs 156 crores at the box office. However, it was made for around Rs 25 crores.  The movie explored another definition of “marriage” system in India, friendship, ‘bro code’ etc.

This launched Kartik Aaryan to stardom. An “outsider” made his way into the industry with back to back releases. Since this breakthrough project, his notable works account for – Love Aaj Kal, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Satyaprem Ki Katha, Chandu Champion‘ among others.

Apart from the main star cast, the movie’s songs also charted the dance list of Bollywood songs. One of them was by Yo Yo Honey Singh marking his come back after two years of hiatus owing to his mental health problems.

Amidst the rising fame, the movie was slammed for its misogynistic dialogues and representation of certain characters. This was not the first time for a Luv Ranjan film to be subjected to such allegations and debate.
