There are various unique and unconventional business ventures around the world that people own; many of them are making major profits. One of them is Sunil Shah, a businessman in Seychelles. More than a hundred years ago, a family from Mandvi in Gujarat’s Kutch region made their way to a small island nation across the Indian Ocean, where they slowly built a thriving business. Initially, Sunil Shah studied to pursue a Chartered Accountant (CA). Later, he joined his father’s business in Seychelles. Although he came from a financial background, his true passion always lay in art, architecture, and nature. While speaking to Condé Nast Traveller, Sunil stated, “As a child, I was fascinated by art and natural landscapes. I wanted to create spaces that people could enjoy while also leaving a lasting legacy.” Driven by a desire to build something both beautiful and lasting, he embarked on a remarkable journey that turned Round Island into a one-of-a-kind, luxurious resort.

Sunil Shah’s passion for design seems to be a family trait. His grandfather, GM Bhuta, was a renowned architect in the 1940s and 50s, famous for his pivotal contributions to India’s IIT Bombay campus and Delhi’s Raj Ghat.

Sunil Shah heads AJ Shah & Associates, Seychelles’ leading accounting firm based in Victoria, the capital city. Alongside his late father, Anant-Jivan Shah, he embarked on a bold venture to acquire Round Island—one of the stunning islands in Seychelles’ 150-island archipelago. Once a deserted patch of land with just a small restaurant, the island has since been transformed into the luxurious Enchanted Island Resort, nestled within the serene Sainte Anne Marine National Park, just 10 minutes by boat from Mahe.

The resort on Round Island boasts eight opulent villas, developed over a span of five years with an investment of approximately USD 9 million. Operated by a Dubai-based management company, the resort has emerged as a favored retreat for high-net-worth individuals. Guests seeking a private island experience for up to 24 people are willing to spend as much as Rs 8.5 lakh per night. Individual villa rates range between Rs 45,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh per night, offering an ultra-exclusive escape amidst the natural beauty of Seychelles.
