Waqf Law: Fresh Violence Erupts in Bengal Over New Waqf Law, Governor Condemns Unrest, Calls for Strong Action

Tensions flared once again in West Bengal as protests over the new Waqf law escalated into violent incidents, particularly in Murshidabad’s Dhuliyan area. Videos surfaced showing miscreants vandalizing government offices, including a dak bungalow and a traffic guard post. CCTV cameras were destroyed and fires were reportedly set inside buildings. The violence erupted after Friday prayers, with large gatherings blocking highways and clashing with police forces. Protesters pelted stones, prompting police to fire tear gas in retaliation. West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose strongly condemned the violence, stating that while democratic protest is acceptable, disturbing public order and damaging property cannot be tolerated. He held a confidential discussion with CM Mamata Banerjee regarding the current situation and demanded strict action against those responsible. The Governor emphasized that no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands and assured the people that peace will be restored in Bengal.
