Parallel membership drive for SAD announced

Even as the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) conducts organisational polls on Saturday, the five-member committee (earlier seven-member) formed by the Akal Takht for conducting the polls and membership drive announced a parallel programme today for the purpose from May 1.

The five-member recruitment committee, comprising Manpreet Singh Ayali, Gurpartap Singh Wadala, Iqbal Singh Jhundan, Santa Singh Umaidpuri and Satwant Kaur, said the process had been planned after the wheat harvest, keeping in mind the needs of the voters.

They said in a statement that the committee had distributed a total of 1,564,000 recruitment slip. They said out of the 4,20,000 recruitment slips requested via missed calls, only 1,50,000 had been processed thus far, with 2,70,000 pending delivery next week.

As per the programme for the membership drive, Manpreet Singh Ayali will lead efforts in the districts of Moga, Ludhiana, Mohali and Ropar, while Iqbal Singh Jhundan has taken on responsibility for Mansa, Barnala, Malerkotla, Sangrur, Patiala, and Fatehgarh Sahib. Satwant Kaur will supervise membership in the districts of Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot in the Majha region. Santa Singh Umaidpuri is tasked with overseeing Ferozepur, Faridkot, Muktsar, Fazilka and Bathinda.

Gurpartap Singh Wadala will work in Nawanshahr, Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur in Doaba.
