Educational institutes celebrate Baisakhi

To celebrate Baisakhi, a gala event—‘Campus Charcha- Gupshap & Games’ — was organised by SDP College for Women, Ludhiana, in collaboration with Suchet TV.

Principal Neetu Handa warmly welcomed a delegation of Suchet TV and inaugurated the function.

The event featured a range of fun-filled activities, including live music, modelling, dance performances, nail art display and recreational games etc. Students participated in various activities and showcased their talent.

Students from schools across the city joined in on the festivities. They interacted with the students of the college and took part in the events.

Vaisakhi Mela

Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College organised the ‘Vaisakhi Mela’, under the aegis of the Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council. Dr Kirpal Singh Aulakh, former vice-chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, was the chief guest at the event and renowned Punjabi singer Deep Bajwa, an alumnus of the college, was the guest of honour.

The cultural programme began with a bhangra performance by the team of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, which won the inter-varsity youth festival and represented Punjab in the nationals. A range of musical and dance performances ensued. Another performance that captivated the audience was the folk dance, Jhumar. Singer Deep Bajwa enchanted the audience with his voice. He also shared anecdotes from his days in the college as a singer in the the bhangra team.

Dr Kirpal Singh visited about 35 stalls that were set up by the students and lauded their efforts. Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, he said that the college had its unique identity in the academic field, and was contributing immensely to the promotion of Punjabi culture and language. Appreciating the organisers, he said such cultural fairs connected students to their heritage, making valuable contributions to nurturing their talents and keeping them close to their roots.

Students of Indo-Canadian Academy, Ludhiana, demonstrated the traditional martial art of Gatka during the event. Navjot Singh (BA I) and Palak (BA I) were declared ‘GGN Gabhru’ and ‘GGN Mutiyaar’, respectively.
