Declared surplus by govt, teachers protest at Karnal Mini-Secretariat
Scores of teachers, who were appointed under the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN) and now allegedly asked to be relieve from jobs, on Friday protested at the Karnal Mini-Secretariat, demanding that they should not be relieved from their current schools until they are adjusted to vacant posts in other schools.
Under the banner of the Democratic School Teachers Association, TGTs and PGTs assembled at the Mini-Secretariat and raised their voice. They handed over a memorandum to the district authority for the Chief Minister.
The protesting TGTs and PGTs, who have been declared surplus under recent directives from the Directorate of Elementary Education Haryana on April 1 and the Directorate of Secondary Education Haryana on April 2, expressed deep concern over the sudden implementation of orders.
Protesting teachers Saroj, Neelam, Sarika, Sukhdev, Naresh and others said that as per these orders, all surplus teachers appointed through the HKRN were to be relieved with immediate effect.
They pointed out that a large number of teachers had been adversely affected by the move. They highlighted that these teachers were selected only after qualifying the HTET exam and fulfilling all eligibility norms, and had been sincerely fulfilling their teaching duties across government schools in Haryana.
The association further argued that a large number of TGT and PGT posts remained vacant at government schools. With ongoing promotions of TGTs to PGTs and PGTs to principals, many more posts were expected to be vacant soon. In such a scenario, they said, it was unfair to relieve already-working teachers without offering them alternative placements.
The association appealed to the government not to relieve any teacher appointed under the HKRN until they were first adjusted in other schools, to prevent disruption in students’ education and to ensure the financial and professional stability of these teachers and their families.
“The order of the state government has disturbed all teachers appointed under the HKRN. We have families but the government does not consider it. Instead of providing job security, we have been removed from our jobs,” said Saroj.
